A Great Discovery

Imagine, if you will, that we discover a planet that is traveling around the sun at the exact radius and velocity as our own planet. It would be interesting to discuss this possibility in a number of views. In a religious view, it would most likely be lifeless, since God(s) created Earth for a reason. But in a scientific view, it could have life, since the conditions would obviously be able to support life. An interesting / ground breaking study of evolution could take place. Would there be something human, just imagine the exact roads that would have to be traveled to reach the same conclusion as we have today, I would imagine it to be impossible. Or could life have been put on both for a reason?
